5-Week Wednesday Hand-building

Service Description

Fun-filled hand-building class to create project-oriented work. The focus will be on a variety of builds that are chock full of skills and techniques and are student-interest driven. There will be 4 builds, and the last class is dedicated to glazing and completing all work before the Holiday Season. Open Studio time associated with this class is either Monday or Thursday, 12-3 PM. Students are encouraged to take advantage of Open Studios to work independently on projects. Students get a total of 15 hours of instruction and 15 hours of open studio time. There are no makeups. No Class or Open Studio Thanksgiving Week. Students learn the basics of making functional/decorative forms from clay while creating some advanced projects. The goal of this class is to teach students foundational techniques to get them on their way to creating independently. For example, if you see something you wish to make, you will have the skill set to be able to construct it. Students will utilize a slab roller and an extruder, and we hope to create some fun pieces as holiday gifts for family and friends. If you've never touched clay before or you are experienced, you will learn to create pieces that you can call your own. Students learn glazing and surface decoration techniques and come away with artwork created for use or decoration. Students must purchase clay at $35-$45 per 25-pound bag. Studio formulated glaze and two firings are included. Cancellation policy: Cancellations receive a 50% refund or postponement to a later class, if cancelled 48 hours prior to the beginning of the first class. This class must have a minimum of 6 students to run. If student cancels, they will incur a $10 credit card processing fee.
