Service Description
$135 for all three classes (with wheel component) $90 for two classes This Pottery Badge Program meets for a total of 8-9 hours and includes a wheel component. Scouts meet three times at the studio; once a week for two consecutive weeks to create wheel-thrown pottery and then hand building pottery, one week off so work can be fired, and a return the third week to glaze. Younger scouts of smaller stature are not able to work on the wheel. We usually require our youth in the 12-13 years of age, of larger stature and this is for safety reasons. If the Scout is not taking the first wheel class component, not a problem, they can start on with the hand building component and the cost is $90 and they still earn their pottery badge. The first session is education on the pottery wheel and wheel throwing with Counselor Cathleen Sullivan. The second session the Scouts switch gears to the hand-building end of pottery by creating several hand-built pottery pieces with Counselor Zoey Bridges (2 1/2-3 hours). Scouts return a third time to paint and glaze their work (2-2 1/2 hours) and further education about kiln firings, and anything not covered in the previous one-two sessions. This program includes all education, clay, glazes, and two firings. Troop Leaders, kindly call Cathleen Sullivan at 772-237-5638 to discuss. As a reference, please feel free to contact Kathleen Remsen, Treasure Coast District Volunteer, kremsen.bsa@gmail.com, 631-513-9879. The full course with the wheel component is $135. For those Scouts that will NOT attend the first wheel class, the cost is $90. This model program was successfully run this past March and Scouts earned their Pottery Badge. For the wheel component to run, we need a minimum of 6 Scouts/maximum of 9. However, we can have up to 12 Scouts registered for the hand-building portion.
